Chinese battery maker Hunan Yuneng partners Invest NS, issues LOI to Seri Pajam Development to establish its first SE Asia facility in Senawang

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 11): Chinese battery manufacturer Hunan Yuneng New Energy Battery Material Co, Ltd is set to establish its first Southeast Asia manufacturing facility at SPD Tech Valley industrial park in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan.
According to a press statement on Aug 7, Hunan Yuneng will invest RM560 million to develop a new facility within Phase 1 of SPD Tech Valley. The plant will be dedicated primarily to producing lithium battery cathode materials, and will have an estimated annual production capacity of 90,000 tonnes. The facility is expected to be completed within 15 months.
To that effect, the company has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the state’s investment arm, Invest Negeri Sembilan (Invest NS) and presented a letter of intent (LOI) to SPD Tech Valley Sdn Bhd (a wholly owned subsidiary of Seri Pajam Development Sdn Bhd) on Aug 7.
The MOU was formally signed between Invest NS chief operating officer Datuk Haji Najmuddin Sharif Sarimon, Hunan Yuneng deputy chief executive officer Liang Kai, and Seri Pajam Development CEO Ten Wee Seong, witnessed by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
“We are truly privileged that Hunan Yuneng — the world’s largest producer of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) materials, supplying over 30% of global demand — has selected SPD Tech Valley as the location for its new Asia manufacturing base. This investment of RM560 million in Phase 1 is not just a financial milestone; it is a clear vote of confidence in Malaysia’s industrial capabilities, in the strength of Negeri Sembilan’s development policies, and the enabling role played by both Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and Invest Negeri Sembilan,” said Ten in the press statement.
Meanwhile, Liang has noted that the forthcoming Malaysian facility will serve as Hunan Yuneng’s strategic springboard for expanding throughout Southeast Asia. “Hunan Yuneng’s participation will materially strengthen Malaysia’s new-energy battery ecosystem, elevating the nation’s position as a comprehensive industry hub in the region,” he said.
